I am sitting at my desk looking diligently around with that vision of the way everything should be perceived. We tend to feel from time to time that sense of being content or not being content with all aspects of our lives. I began to think to myself “sit back and take a deep breathe to reflect on what being content should feel like.”
As I contemplate this feeling of being content, I receive a phone call from a long time friend and client Kell, I always enjoy speaking with Kell as stimulating conversation and insight tend to follow. After our normal conversation regarding the endeavors of our children, the conversation usually shifts to the nature of the world we live in. As always the conversation does not disappoint as the times we currently live in seem to be in a downward spiral of unknown despair.
Kell started with “What do you think about the nature of the economy, the price of fuel, interest rates and all other variables affecting our way of life.”
Being who I am I state the obvious and point out the state of the oblivious. As I finish my conversation of dismay in the way the world is at the moment, I then begin to regain focus on the realities as he feels the same about the nature of the world. I then begin to think about those who are content and oblivious to what is happening around us with confusion on why some individuals fail to think for themselves which I know is not a popular thing to do.
Reflecting on this feeling of being content in a time of obvious mismanagement, evokes this unpopular thinking I have of questioning why are some people content. These individuals feel the pain of mismanagement and are not questioning the pain of higher fuel prices and the rise of basic necessities to name only a few. I ask myself how can people be content even with the negatives of the world beating them down.
I then realize being content with the situation is a mindset of shutting out the negatives of the world and moving forward in a positive manner. Being able to acknowledge the negatives but moving past those negatives will bring the happiness of being content with what you have, who you have in your life and where you are headed in your life.
In the sales industry being content can be the death of a salesperson and can be a career hazard. Being content in your personal life will provide you with that sense of security which will help you possess the positive attitude and positive mindset to excel in the workplace. Possessing that contentment in your life is truly the foundation to your success in the workplace which is often overlooked. Don’t worry be content but remember not to be too content with certain aspects of your life and workplace.
